Macbook Neo is a better option for the price.
I like mine a lot more than I thought I would for productivity tasks. The battery lasts forever too
@hfaust i used one briefly, i guess the processor on that thing was failing because there were quite a bit of graphical corruption whilst i was using it. apparently this and other strange issues are common with x1 carbons

@hfaust Assuming that you're buying used, I would rather get a T14/T14s Gen 3 or better (or an X13 Gen 2 or newer). Each go around for $300-400 (or less without an OS). Both the X1 Carbon and the newer T laptops are getting thinner, but there's some more ports (like full Ethernet) and some more replaceable parts (except with Ryzen) for the T14/T14s. For writing, I'd get one with a 16:10 display (I think X1 Carbon had those starting with Gen 9). Battery life on those X1 Carbon laptops aren't fantastic since it's too thin and light for a big battery. If all else fails, save your money and buy a $600 MacBook Neo.

@hfaust If you insist on getting a X1 Carbon, I'd get the Gen 9 (or newer if cheaper) since that has a 16:10 display by default. They have the 11th gen Intel processors and even the lowest end one (i5-1135G7) seems fine for typing within whatever Linux distro is installed. It's likely to be cheaper than a MacBook Neo.

Surprisingly young actually. I thought it was older.
Overall I'm quite happy with it. The screen is not as high-res as my T14 had before, but it's still decent: 1920x1200. The X1 is noticeably lighter. There's no built-in Ethernet. The nipple is not as offensive as on some of the older systems.
