@hakui @grey I just did some research and found out that "consuming the database" is a concept from a book about otaku culture, from inside otaku culture, it was an exploration of it while these people are leveraging it as a critique and prescription against otaku culture, it really does seem like this is an extension of the indie gaming criticism "contempt for gaming culture" thrust. Basically they are mad that someone says "I like tower defense games, so I buy and play all the tower defense games", people that are interested in gameplay aspect of games rather than narrative structure of games.
