I've added rudimentary support for lives on xitter. if I can dial it in we should be able to support spaces soon which will be great for some of you insufferable politik niggas. Xitter spaces will still warn you that the card type is not supported (they're treated completely differently), you should be able to view live (video) streams without issue hopefully later today

the only one I can find to test right now is some bollywood tier news shit and it returns all the proper shit but the stream doesn't start due to 403's despite the caching being done by unique genuine xitter accounts, I don't know yet.

the broadcast cards are supported, videos are now fully proxied (this is going to cost us a fortune)

oh but if we can embed them here, it will cost much less because the CDN will handle it

since there are multiple functioning public nitter instances now, I am going to login gate ours to poast users only, so this feature wont be as costly

Is that going to break older nitter.poast links people have made in the past? I've seen N.P links to tweet in the wild.

To clarify: I'm asking if this will affect all nitter.poast links new and old, all new going forward, or just live stream links.

I will say by maybe june you will require a login to use the Poast nitter. so if you click a link in the wild, it will send you to a poast login screen in order to access it. Poast users pay for the nitter. Poast users paid for the hundreds of accounts required to operate it, it should be a Poast user service and it will be. I had meant to make it that way back even in 2024 but we were the only functional nitter instance for over a year. Now that we aren't, we can protect our service, for our users.

In order so I don't break historical links I can have a failed login or a cancel (or a click to go to another nitter instance link) and have ot display on another instance, which is probably what I will end up doing. I don't want to break backlinks but I also don't want to support people who don't support the service or us providing it

The cost of operating the nitter is several thousand dollars yearly on its own. If we limit it to Poast users that becomes several hundred. If it's just poast, we can proxy video directly over Poast and it's CDN at no additional cost, making it almost entirely anonymous to view nitter links as a poast user. We can embed easier, we can implement nitter search in the poast search as well. There's so much that can be done when we aren't catering to brazilians and half of the middle east

There might be some way I can use the account link (think, the link page for moving accounts) to allow you to link another account like your mugicha account to your poast account and use that login. I'm in the planning phase now but I'm so tired of fighting residential proxy scraping man

yeah I won't take your money friend, when I login gate it I am considering making it whitelist instance login gated instead of just poast, if not I would just give you a token or something. I like the idea of whitelisting instances though, because there are a lot of SPW users who donate to poast, and on other instances as well.

There is a rudimentary implementation but it was never fleshed out in favor of just pure RSS because it was universally supported by a lot of clients users wanted to use. if you have a use case for a full robust API I can flesh it out and PR it

yeah the very flaky implementation of an api was replaced with instance.com/username/rss

we have very heavy limitations on the /rss endpoint so if you want to use it send me the IP you will be using (or the user agent) and I'll make sure it bypasses js checks and rate limiting
