@sun where was a documentary about a native tribe in south america that rejected modern life and still lived in the stone age, and later, when someone went there to see them, it turned out that they put on a show for the filming crew because they found it funny

@Inginsub @sun because a lot of us are aware that settlers or disconnected outsiders believe that our ways of life are still primitive and it's funny to play into it

i'm not saying there aren't tribes that aren't 100% disconnected but even pueblos originarios have had modern developments

@melonhusk @Inginsub in the video they had to be careful where they landed on the river shore because there was a different, uncontacted tribe that just kills outsiders immediately if they see them, even though the other tribe speaks the same language.

@sun @Inginsub that makes sense, but overall in Ecuador they've done impressive work on language preservation.

Guatemala also has a significant population of various Maya groups, many who still preserve their practices and dialects despite being catholic or evangelicals.

@melonhusk @Inginsub another funny thing is someone on their crew got an eye infection but there was no hospital, one of the guys said take him to the shaman. they took him and the shaman said "there's nothing I can do, you need antibiotics"
