@georgia I got something today that smells like old perfume and smoke I hope it wears off a bit. It does suck when things smell like their old owners.

@aetios my guess is that it smells like smoke so they put perfume over it in the case of my deck ;_;

Ozone can damage certain materials, including rubber, plastics, and fabrics, causing them to degrade or discolor over time.

Depends if you wanna risk it or not

Buy decking oil and a decking brush and apply liberally to the surface. Should seal the perfume smell once it cooks in. Make sure to seal the gaps of your doorways and windows with airtight tape. The odors from the oil are very strong and can linger for weeks.

@georgia I'd lean toward that being included in "plastics/fabrics" when it comes to tarot cards. Would depend on their composition though. If you know what they're made of, I'd run a test with a similar composite first. But effects might take a while to show up, kinda like old the electronics case plastics turning yellow with UV exposure.

@Vo it just sucks that it didnt say it was smelly in the description of the deck and I'm sensitive to smells

@georgia Yeah you only ever get a "smoke-free home" as a selling point, never a warning otherwise. But I've never seen a "perfume-free home" selling point, and for me that can be much worse.

If it was a deal-breaker for me, I'd send it.

Those ozone generator units are pretty cheap and useful for other purposes too, just gotta be conscious of the health effects... run enclosed away from inhabited spaces, ventilate thoroughly after use.

@Vo @georgia My wife buys a lot of second hand kids clothing, as well as shirts I like they don't make anymore, and ISTG, some people wash their clothing in effing bubble gum flavored soda mixed with shitty perfume before they send it out.
Makes stuff unwearable until it's sat outside for like three days and a rainstorm.

@brimshae @georgia Ugh I think I've smelled this. Thought it was just excessive dryer sheet usage. Fuck dryer sheets man, gimme lightning bolts worth of static shock before benzenes/acetaldehyde.

Granted I love the smell of ozone so I maybe I'm biased.

@georgia @brimshae I learned it from a hotel maintenance job where they had an ozonated water generator, that stuff cleaned so damn well and was dirt cheap.

Didn't care for the job but the smell and efficiency must've awakened something in me.

@georgia @Vo @brimshae when my acura smelled like absolute ass in the ventilation system i got one of those mega ozone generators from amazon, ran it for 1/2 hour inside the car with the fan on, and it completely eliminated the smell without damaging the interior. it's harmful to breathe though so be aware if you do use it.
