@matthew @feld A thought-provoking post, thanks! I wouldn't go so far as to say that "revoking" the open community is always a good idea, but it's good to be reminded that that's an option.

@diazona @matthew I wish people would have more confidence to build what they want in small groups or just privately and not worry about trying to please the entire internet.

I think there are a lot of project ideas that talented people have but they'll never start them or never open source the work because the internet drama is too much to deal with.

It can be absolutely exhausting.

@feld @matthew Gotcha... I think I would guess that this actually doesn't happen all that often, although I can really only use my own experience as a basis. Personally I have held back contributions to certain established open source projects because I didn't want to deal with the "drama", but it's never stopped me from creating my own new projects and putting all the open community features in place.

Of course I do not have the experience of being a maintainer of a large project with a very active community, so I can't speak to that.
