This post replies to something we haven't fetched yet. We'll try to pull in the missing thread context in the background.
If you go back to Ron Paul's famous Dollar Hegemony speech from 2006, you can see the problem: When you print the world's reserve currency, everybody can be rich beyond their actual productivity.
But that doesn't work forever, so eventually the party ends. And when it does, people have to accept a decrease in their quality of life. Well, it turns out, if you tell people "the new deal is you live a worse quality of life", you don't get a lot of signers.
And if someone else tells them they can all keep being rich using blah blah financial magic, they will believe him even if it's transparently bullshit.
So trying to reform the system and make it actually functional would mean FORCING people to take the deal, and this is something almost everyone will fight you on, so you can't win.
The obvious answer is to push the productive people OUT of the broken system, fill it up with people that don't really matter, accelerate the broken system toward the wall, and leave the productive people on the outside to develop a parallel system on their own.
Now there's two questions that will really fuck with you:
1. Was that actually what they were doing with DEI?
2. Was that what Schwab meant about his "Great Reset"?

That isn't a mind fuck, yes they need to reset the system lol.
The mind fuck question is: Was DEI and "Great Reset" actually NOT brainrot, but rather a long game executed by the good guys, for good reasons?
I don't think so. If that was the goal, you'd think they'd leave more outs for the productive, instead of locking down via the admistrative state.
Most likely what they want is people who will accept the lower quality, so they eliminate those who grew accustomed to the old ways, and import those whose lives improve by moving despite the down turn.

My counter-point to this is their ability to steer is limited. The administrative state was already repressive and it's just difficult to make it change direction...

Right but this is still temporary because as soon as the music stops for big tech, all that's left of MSFT and GOOG is hundreds of thousands of mostly unskilled button-pushers who are probably just going to starve.
If your perspective is "nah, it's brainrot" then I'm definitely willing to entertain that hypothesis, but taking these actions for these reasons is not some grand visionary strategy...
