Makes sense, I remember 2022ish videos of drones dropping and everyone on the fedi shouting "just get a fucking shotgun mate" - but I guess armies are slow to adapt...
@cjd Imagine the procurement nightmare if the US found itself in that position where basically every rifle squad and every vehicle needs a shotgunner
They probably went though that struggle session a few years ago. But the thing is, you don't need every reservist on every base to have a shotgun, you just need a few thousand of them in the teams that are actually working the front line.

@Terry @cjd Two shotgunners minimum. Worrying about how surgically equipped a rifle squad is to deal with very manly and conventional human-on-human frontal conflict is pointless if you're less assured of said squad reaching the front line through the swarm of twitchy game-niggers who were raised on a diet of vidya and conscience-numbing Mountain Dew.
This is of course the reality of modern war, but suffice to say I have no problem with captured drone pilots being treated to the same mercies as snipers traditionally get.

@WTFPurpleAlpaca @Titanbreakerkun @cjd weapon designers have made prototype remote controlled full auto shotguns for vehicles but it never went anywhere. I think there was design issues plus a lot of bureaucratic red tape.
Weight. Not of the gun, but the rounds are very heavy. Nobody wants to hump 120 lbs of shotgun shells anywhere.
