Serious question: Are we right now at peak technological freedom?
A lot of trends I see are pretty grim, but there is also a lot of seriously interesting work going on.
Maybe I'm oversimplifying, but I'm interested in the full range of perspectives. #AskFedi

IMO it's getting better, but some things are getting worse at the same time, so it goes kind of sideways but diagonally in the right direction.
The BIG BIG BIG change is decentralization of narrative control.
5 years ago, you were banned for speaking your mind on social media.
10 years ago, you were banned, but it didn't even matter because non-mainstream opinions were dismissed.
Now control is lost in both the sense of centralized moderation, and in the sense of centralized control over what is "mainstream".
