3Fill it with diesel, so the smell won't be off. The color will be disguised by the color of the gas can.
Diesel in a gasoline car will be "okay", runs like trash but okay once you drain it.
Sugar water it will just not run, and they'll have to drain it immediately
Sugar dissolved in gasoline is nightmare material because it WILL run, but it will junk up the cylinders with deposits until Something Bad Happens...

DEF is basically just water, it's not good but you can drain it and the engine will run again.
RE sugar in gasoline, I apparently spoke too soon. It seems that in fact it does not dissolve in gasoline very well so it just sits in the tank. However, gasoline which has had a modest amount of styrofoam dissolved in it would probably have a better chance of passing through the fuel filter and then junking up the engine...

Oh yeah, there's a ton of things that will ruin a DIESEL engine - the discussion was more about gasoline engines IIRC, and if they're port injected they're fairly robust...
I would assume that the gumming and corrosion would happen there too.
In a diesel, the pump is lubricated by the fuel, so anything that even reduces fuel lubricity will typically cause pump failure over time.
In a gasoline engine it's just an electric pump - nothing that special, and the injectors are also reasonably loose tolerance.
An organometalic like tetraethyl-lead will create big problems over time and it passes all filters because it's truly liquid.
