Why do westerners even think that every little scrap of information has to be preserved for all eternity “just in case”?

@lain I wish past generations were better at preserving their information. So much of history is lost to time.

@besserwisser what’s the problem?
@lain They made studying history hard for me (there were other problems and having to sift through tons of information is its own problem but I just don't like not being able to know things).
@lain @besserwisser could've learned how well society operated with a different zeitgeist.
