The thing about the Fediverse, is that if its denizens want more people to join, and for them to stop thinking that X/Twitter is an alternative, not only does the Fediverse need to figure out its trust and safety issues, but it needs to fix its issues with racism, transmisogyny, regular misogyny, and how to stop nazis, and covert-fascists from owning spaces and platforms within the network.

11I'm talking about so-called leftists who build platforms just so they can later use that platform to silence trans women and marginalized people who aren't /immediately trusted every single time they speak/, I'm talking about the cis dudes who run instances who kick you out at the slightest hint of a transgression, without context, and suffer zero consequences for destroying your support network.
The Fediverse needs to have some semblance of justice, common sense, and safety harnasses, and if it doesn't, and never does
Then X/Twitter, Bluesky, whatever, they'll always be two sides of a similar coin.
Except you can't host Twitter on a VPS.
People will constantly say to me, "Oh, Bluesky is toxic, you should just stay on the Fediverse" but the Fediverse, in the past year, and over the years, has shown me that there is just as much toxicity here. It's just that ... nobody addresses it. Nobody speaks about it. It gets swept under-the-rug, and the numerous people who orchestrate silent abuse campaigns and attempts to smother marginalized people under a blanket of censorship, suffer no consequences.
Do you know what other network harbors a bunch of bigots and fascists that suffer zero consequences for their numerous abuses?
Twitter.
And don't get me wrong, I really like the Fediverse! I think there's a lot of good here, and I still prefer it over everything else, even though I try to maintain accounts everywhere.
But holy golly gee whiz fuck in a bucket, the reason some people *don't* want to be here is because these communities that exist on this network are in denial about what goes on here.
Just take me for example, since I'm the only person talking about this within my federated bubble, anyway: I've been speaking about the numerous terrible things fedi admins have done to myself and my accounts FOR YEARS.
Nothing's been done about it.
I've been talking FOR MONTHS about these people who believe themselves to be in-control of the fediverse and its moderation and the abuses they attempt to enact against myself and others.
Nothing's been done about it. They're just fine.
People on the outside see this, they see people talking about these things, they see ME talking about this and they go, "What the entire holy fuck?"
And yeah, dude.
What the fuck indeed
Until the people who refuse to address these things decide to metaphorically stand up and START addressing them, it will never change.
The Fediverse will continue to have abusers who maintain instances where they wear a veil of 'trust and safety' while they silently contribute to lateral violence, and the Fediverse will continue to have admins who shouldn't be anywhere near community management who suffer no consequences for their actions.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk that 1 or 2 people will hit 'like' on and everyone else will move on with their day as if nobody was talking, as usual.
And although I shouldn't, I will apologize for sounding bitter and resentful and angry, but if a hundred people threw knives at you and nobody put them in jail, you would hold a grudge for the rest of your life
