part of why i hate the idea of furry as an inherently leftist subculture is that i refuse to believe that any subculture has any political ideology as its essence. ultimately they are subcultures and subcultures are messy mixtures of whoever happens to be interested in them. a subculture may be majority-left or majority-right, but it's not gonna be politically unified to justify the "inherently x" label. any subculture that's politically unified is not a subculture, it's a political movement.
and for me? furry has been an important social substrate for meeting other leftists, anarchists, feminists, etc. we can celebrate this without assigning the furry subculture the tall order of being "inherently leftist".
like the fact that furry brings creatures together is enough to justify its existence as a subculture. the "meeting other leftists" part is a perk, and it exists because a lot of us did the boring unglamorous work of learning leftist theory and engaging in leftist praxis. "furry is leftist" smooshes this all together in an unhelpful way.
there's also this neurosis where people feel like everything they do has to be a form of activism, they're not allowed to do anything just for fun, and this is immensely corrosive to actual activist movements
i think my favorite use for a tungsten cube ive seen so far is a youtuber who put it in front of his cats who like to knock things off tables
guy who forgets he only plays modded video games: it was really impressive of bubsy to do all that stuff while seven months pregnant
can i be a little mean? i think "live your life so no one celebrates your death" is a horrifically timid way to live. if i wanted to make sure no one celebrated my death i never would have come out as trans.
