@Ghislaine I think that's fairly tortured logic, at its best. Supposing a miracle had happened and America had left Israel high and dry, I think Iran would've held off on targeting American assets.

Even so, if the best justification for attacking a country is that it might've lashed out if our millstone of an 'ally' attacked it, the smart call is to cut Israel loose rather than to bail them out. The fact that the administration is down to stuff like this indicates that pretty much everyone knows it was a bad idea, which is a good sign.
@Ghislaine They're denying the attacks on Saudi oil fields, IIRC, and they've been good about keeping things in reserve so far. A lot of people have predicted that Iran was out of missiles only to be proven wrong six hours later, for instance.

I think they'd reward a lack of escalation. Not saying they're geniuses, but their responses have had that kind of calculus so far. We'd be seeing less damage to American assets than we currently see.
