In Super Mario when you touch the star of invincibility, it plays the "invincible music" and you cannot die except via pits or timeout.

And when your time is almost out, the music plays at twice the speed, and you must end the level before the clock runs out and you die.

When you have both, it plays the invincible music at double speed and you have to go kill the final boss and end the level before your time runs out.

This is what it's like to be terminally ill. You're invincible but the clock is almost out.
