Trump on AI data centers:

"I'm letting them build their own power plants. They're building the most beautiful; you've never seen power plants like this.

Communities that don't take a data center, they're making a mistake, because it means jobs, and it means tremendous tax revenue coming into the towns and cities that take them.

The smart ones are saying, "I want them so badly." "

I'm gonna do a GPT session later on how many square feet of DC floor space exist, how many chips are needed per square foot of compute, how much power is needed, and what's the production rate of known power plants and known fabs.

I think the answer is going to prove that there's no way these things can actually be datacenters, they're just building empty warehouses.
I think AI is going to be kind of a weird side-show distraction in the collapse. If these are empty buildings, then we're not talking about THAT MUCH money, it's more of a prosperity Potemkin Village ("don't worry about the crash, AGI is coming, look at these big (empty) buildings")

The real crash is probably gonna start with some shit like car loans, or Japan.
Okay so here's the question: Do these DCs plan on renting space and filling capacity over time, or do they not consider their work "complete" until they are filled with hardware owned by the DC owner.

If they're "AI datacenters", then one would presume the latter.

The low number is 65mn square feet. So the question is how much sub-10nm silicon (square meters) is required per square foot of datacenter?

And then the second question is how many square meters of sub-10nm silicon is the world producing?
@Terry @cjd I think achieving true AGI is like trying to escape the gravity well of a black hole. I think they are realizing it too. The nvidia ceo said it would take a “global effort” which is like saying it’s impossible but please don’t stop buying gpus.
I don't think it's impossible at all. There's gonna come a time when we will be able to take DNA and "run" it in a protean folding simulation to create an entire virtual person - with all of their cells. That's obviously "AGI" in the sense of being a human brain.

The question is whether something more efficient and more effective will come sooner. And I tend to think probably, but I'm quite confident that AI is not gonna bail out the US.
Okay so I talked to the slop machine.

Post-2023 datacenter buildout is about 10GW (they measure in power consumption rather than floor space)

A rack of Nvidia GPU machines uses about 500kW, so 10GW of buildout is about 20,000 racks. Interestingly, even if you consider that each rack requires 50 square feet of space for "support
infrastructure", 10GW is still only 1 million square feet in total.

One million square feet is 17.4 football fields.
The Texas Tesla Gigafactory is 10 million square feet.

That's the entire AI datacenter buildout since 2023.

The reason why EVeRy CoMmUniTy nEeDs A DatAcEnTeR is (I'm guessing) because they use enough power that they need to colocate wherever power is cheap and available. But the actual needed building space is fairly small.

And nobody is really talking about floor space, but I'm going to guess there's a lot of "for future use" empty space in these buildings. So it's kind of what I said - empty buildings.

If there's 200 post-2023 completed projects (GPT's estimate), that's about 100 racks per project, each rack is technically 2 feet wide, so maybe 5 isles, 40 feet long (?) Basically the size of the hunting section in a Walmart - plus of course a bunch of power and cooling bullshit, but not a "massive" amount.

This picture seems to show 96 racks, so ALL post-2023 completed DC capacity is about 200 times that.
@Terry @cjd @captainslow ok, great wheels. now, do kikes and towel heads next.I saw where they were asking for docs people had to feed them. They're running out of words to feed it and it will start hallucinating more on its own crap. It's so not sustainable. It'll crap out and then something better will come along that requires less resources and still produce cute fake kitty pics
