You cannot go out of your way to copyright anything - something either qualifies for copyright or it doesn't.
Copyright isn't a problem when it comes to RAM, as a business can choose to simply not copy the RAM chip and implement their own.
Patents may be a problem, as even a companies own design is not safe from extortion, but there are ways to work around patents.
