Apple and Intel have reached a preliminary agreement under which Intel would manufacture some chips for Apple devices, WSJ reports.
The companies have been engaged in discussions for more than a year, with a formal arrangement taking shape in recent months.
A $9 billion U.S. government grant and a 10% government stake in Intel helped encourage the deal, while Trump personally urged Apple CEO Tim Cook to work with Intel.
It remains unclear which Apple products would use chips manufactured by Intel under the proposed agreement.
