@RustyCrab I want to make a snide comment about iToddlers getting what they deserve, but seeing the prices for the newest Pixels makes me think we are all getting what we deserve now.
@RustyCrab What?
@Sentaro google also destroying sideloading. No point in pixels now
@RustyCrab @Sentaro what about wid grapheneos
@azure @Sentaro doesnt help. Projects like newpipe will stop altogether because nobody's going to be able to make a living off donations from the 0.00000001% install base
@RustyCrab @Sentaro they're really going to force me to quit my slop addiction huh
@azure @Sentaro @RustyCrab Only for those adventurous enough that can trust a paranoid schizophrenic to not fuck with their phone.
@azure @phnt @Sentaro thats what i currently do. I have a pixel for home use. Newpipe already updated with a message saying that they're going to stop updating on mainline android phones meaning the only users they'll have left are the 10 schizos paranoid enough to install graphene (a project thats also untrustworthy)
@RustyCrab @Sentaro @azure @phnt There are like hundreds of custom ROMs, graphmeme users are just a margin of all ROM users despite all the shilling.
@RustyCrab @Sentaro @azure
>message saying that they're going to stop updating on mainline android phones
Do they? I only had the retarded keep android open popup show up twice which didn't say that.

@mint @Sentaro @RustyCrab @azure There's VictimhoodOS and Lineage, everyone else is just noise or a meme. And GSI, but Google can also fuck with that.
@phnt @Sentaro @azure ill see if i can find the original but as verbatim as i can remember it:
"Early next year, Google will be preventing side loading from non-verified developers. Devs will need to give their personal information to Google to be approved for the program. As the developers do not agree with this, we will no longer be making new releases for stock Android"

@phnt @Sentaro @RustyCrab @azure Yeah, most of them are downstream from Lineage. Still, Graphene is limited to Pixels which aren't available worldwide and lack quite a few important features like microSD or headphone jack. Not to mention the sacrifice of freedom and customizability in favor of security edge cases.
@RustyCrab @Sentaro @azure I don't think that's how it will work out because of the bypass Google added, but if they actually make it so that it won't run when it detects Google stuff, that's a weird way to kill an almost dead project.
@rosey @phnt @azure @Sentaro I don't know, as there was no such option given at the time as I recall. It doesnt matter though. Google pulled this exact same thing with manifest v3 where they said "haha just kidding we'd" never do that and then did it anyway. Same thing with verified environment
Google has a well recorded history of blatantly lying by boiling the frog over a few months.
"It's just an option bro" is cope. They'll yank that too

@RustyCrab @Sentaro @azure @rosey They really want to be Apple, but lack all of the things Apple use(s/d) to get people hooked on their ecosystem.
@rosey @phnt @azure @Sentaro like i say i dont think that existed at the time of this message.
If it still doesnt exist now they might be trying to rile people up to push back because i dont think that solution is actually real. Google just puts in a temp measure to placate people and removes it shortly after. You vill watch ze ads.

@rosey @RustyCrab @azure @Sentaro Because they are Google and making stupid business decisions every once in a while is their thing. They failed hilariously at running a domain registrar, one of the most profitable and easiest businesses you can do on the Internet.
In the end it won't matter, because few people actually care about installing apps not via the Play store. They are trying to capitalize on that while having tighter controls over the ecosystem like Apple has. It would be extremely funny if Google went through with this and removed the option to install apps outside the store except for development and then Apple allowed sideloading on their devices. It's never gonna happen, but still funny.

@rosey @RustyCrab @azure @Sentaro got the popup today. Still links to keep android open and https://github.com/woheller69/FreeDroidWarn?tab=readme-ov-file#solutions which doesn't mention the intended workaround.
