Conversation I was having earlier today: Atheists are at a disadvantage to Christians when it comes to comprehending people who literally worship evil (re Epstein, et al) because they see everyone has to be "human", however flawed. Christians have mental models such as "demon" to mentally comprehend incredible evil.
I was raised Atheist so that's how I perceive the world, but have a lot of respect for Christianity for its survivability.

They do, but, sometimes they do things that are SO EVIL, that it is very hard to imagine a human doing it. Stuff like abducting children, and killing and eating them, or demolishing office buildings full of people.
So if anyone does something like this, people are often unable to even comprehend that it is happening because it's difficult to imagine humans doing such a thing. But that creates a major blind spot which can be manipulated to protect one's self from justice.
Those who are able to imagine beings that are "pure evil" therefore have no such blind spot.

You might be more cynical than average, and most people are more cynical than they were before 2020, or 2008, or 2001... But there are also a lot of people who are relatively innocent, and they have a hard time grasping things like child sex trafficking, false flag attacks, or cannibalism.
When faced with evidence of such things, they are tempted to deny it, or search for explanations for why it might not be so. This is the struggle of the conspiracy theorist. Typically they have incontrovertible proof that the official story is a lie, but trying to say it at a family dinner puts them in silly games of mental peekaboo. Every time they discredit whatever falacy the normie is hiding behind, the normie runs to another one. People can't be convinced of things that they cannot mentally grasp.
