being enlightened about the human condition, is realizing that there is no sudden spike in autism, in schizophrenia, or overall mental illnesses in the human populace. only that in the period of conception of mass media, there was a spike in extreme normalization of average&/medium human behaviors.

@medievalwars while dysgenic pressure is very likely true (and i consider it true), the attached implication of this pressure having caused normality/"healthyness" to be come less common is not.

it seems counter intuitive for both of these (strong dysgenic pressure without effect on overall healtyness of the individual?!? crazytalk!) to be true simultaneously, but do consider it for a moment, that there is both strong dysgenic pressure AND that there has been little to no effect on mental illness (%) numbers by that pressure.

from the pressure of deaths from war, there is also the pressure of reproduction of those same deaths. includes the pressure of choosing to mate with war survivors for they are more attractive generally, to war-enabled rape, etc.

to the deaths and contamination of the environment post-industrial revolution (and the known and unknown effects of said pollutions of many various types). Has this affected the most polluted place in the world, african shitholes? no not really. you might consider them non-humans, still there are enough counter argument countries of higher pollution and industrialization, yet no reproductive issues nor noticeable measureable negative changes in health exist.

there is something else at play. war, pollution, none have a effect on populations health and prosperity of various many countries in a way that always hits. something is critically missing from the overall theory of dysgenics. perhaps its impossible to disprove the idea that dysgenic pressure works as the (scientific glossary meaning of the word theory) theory of devolution. but it is possible to prove that there are a lot of maladies of the mind in the common man in books of the older times. while a lot of my older reading is biased to be old estonian books, from the time of just at the time when the first industrial revolutions were happening (yet not yet having arrived in this part of the world), a lot of characters share interesting, seemingly negative traits. Most characters are stupid, retarded, autistic, have some common day OCD type shit, are unhealthy in ways X Y or Z, etc. The normal character from the 19th century book is definitely not a good workman living a simple life with solveable worries. It's a mixture of depressions, unsolveable conundrums, everyone around being an emotionally retarded being who need a hedgehog to tell them that if you hit someone with a sharp sided object's edge instead of a large blunt flat side, then you can damage (cut) the enemy more with the same force. "But the flat side is bigger, so more power DUH!". That is the level of the white northernman's human mind, if he isnt taught and educated by a skilled person, a parent. Everything past that is a memetic (cultural) skill, which is hard limited by genes and healthiness of growth. That is the true picture of the world a human mind has, on average in an average family of past history, and most certainly, today.

So a common man from start of industrial revolution, to pre world war 1 was like that. So was there a greater man pre-industrial revolution? What and where is this ideal high-eugenic-value common man to compare to? The theoretical, illusionary roman ideal of a man? The perfect God as a biblical ideal to strive to? The common man of the soviet union was definitely not it, the common american white man was a white picket fence dreamer who lived in a temporary fragment of time of great success, lived on the moment of respite caused of great magnificent achievements from war times needing little maintenance, and the loan of men today. Who die in the great western-adjacent wars of today? Lots of elderly, uneducated, not especially strong. Lots of undesireables (the criminal element from prisons being forcibly conscripted in the big world wars and also the bigger wars of the past 20 years)

Cargo cults are another great example of this, i really laughed at the following thought of africans putting corpses in caskets painted as planes i found out about ~4 months ago. because its a very relatable moment in human ingenuity. They arent smart culturally, AND separately they also lack the power in their cortex to be able to be smart about it because they are behind in mental development due to combined genetic, environmental, linguistics triple whammy of "fuck your brain and health". What is a lot of the most greatest scientific breakthroughs, but a examination and copying of what a man sees in nature?

now there's also the physical healthiness which i didnt specifically imply in my original post, though by proxy of assuming that physical health and mental health are the same thing (which i also consider to be true, as both mental and physical health are expressions of the overall health of the body, subcategories so to say, without one being healthy the other cannot be healthy)

i should probably write a long rant involving that too here but i am then weekly-rant-allowance-exceeding myself

@Pi_rat @medievalwars this image really is the TL;DR , though i didnt have it at hand and felt a autistic urge to rant post instead of googling for it

another contemporary + real life example is my neighbour just going "nu-uh i dont need diabetic medicine" for 3 years despite his wife and neighbours and me and doctors going "bro your blood sugar is fucking shit, your readings are all off the charts, you're nauseous all the time, just do the insulin, literally everything points at exactly this" and dying explicitly from nothing else except the diabetes

people just are like this, and people like this are in old books too, and have been like this. even the "behold a chicken" story is essentially just about people being really retardedly stubborn in their own world view from 2000 years ago. dumb, stubborn, mentally, phsyically well ~just~ enough to make it to adulthood and either the mother, or the father, or one of the grandparents living just long enough for the child to make it to age 15+, old enough to partake in the community with success and mesh with the rest well.

honestly i think that based on old literature vs what i see today, i actually think there might be LESS mental and phsyicall illnesses % of persons wise around me than in the average ye-olde-slice-of-life books of ~200 years ago, quite a bold assumption by myself
@Pi_rat @medievalwars just reminded myself that probably the most historically important book in modern estonian history (from 1920), called Truth and Justice, is about 2 autistic farm families (and their really autistic children)reaaalllly out-autisming eachother with the bible (and/or lack of bible) and the law, and is definitely considered really "slice of life" tier. i think their autism takes eachother to court like 5 or 10 times. the book is 5 chapters and each chapter is an autistic fight against:
The land and the neighbours
God
Society as a whole
fight against the self and the concept of happiness (which is the same word as for luck and success)
and the autistic fight against surrender/resignation

the book is ~2500 pages of thick reading, ive only read like the first 500 seriously and the rest is all "fuck you im just gonna get TL;DRs of this". i think its possible that no one has ever read past the first chapter, because 99% of discussion of this book is about the first chapter lmao
