1Basically it's weird and kind of antisocial to inveigh against something that is one the final forms of community in this country and immensely popular among the british working class, over historical sins of the nation. This isn't something that happens in other European countries and it kind of seems just another sad bit of evidence of the utter shattering of a working class basis to the left in this country, thatcher's hammering of the unions and successive new labour politics did so much damage to an organised working class left that the british middle class left just drifted off of it and away from material bases for their cultural positions.
