I've found that a very informative thought experiment is to flip everything in that way. Imagine being invaded and how people would react, and you can expect that kind of reaction from the Iranians.

What if Iran *wants* them to invade? If America is unable to invade then they might sit around bombing Iran indefinitely because no one cares. But if America invades and Iran is able to kill thousands of Americans and force the US government to begin the draft, this is much more likely to lead to a US imperial collapse.

If that happens, and if Iran is then able to defeat Israel, then the middle east is theirs...

There might be some generals who are fired because they refuse to plan a ground invasion of Iran, but I think most likely the administration will force the issue for three reasons:

1. With the strait closed off, the petrodollar is fucked, so the US wall street financial shit is also fucked, stock market / tech bubble is fucked, etc.

2. The people in power are not interested in continuing the US as an empire, and their intention is to transfer the imperial seat to Israel in the same way they transferred it from England to the US 100ish years ago. So they don't care if the US loses, they just need Iran vanquished so that Israel can rule over the region.

3. The people in power are a bunch of more-or-less crazy people who got into power because they all believe these fairy tales about the end of the world. Their belief in these stories gave them the ability to seize power because the stories coordinated them to act as a group. But they're still crazy, and if their stories lead them off a cliff they will still jump.
