Socrates in his old age saw a young fat greek once. He shook his head, told his students (Xenophon specifically) pointing at the fat youngster, the quote above and proceeded to fat shame the chubby youngster.
Socrates was a tank of a man. He was indestructible, a feared stoic in battle always composed, impervious to hunger and cold unlike most greeks (like today) very sensitive to it. Famously he marched and fought barefoot in snow covered Thrace to prove a point to his fellow greek soldiers, as they were shivering covered in animal furs.
