And it just fucks everything up, signalling you need to reload. It#s no more than an easter egg dressed up as content

@WandererUber @DrRyanSkelton @Jens_Rasmussen I say it stays true to the original spirit of RPGs, where everyone just wants to be a murder-hobo at the start till eventually they grow out of that destructive outlook and realize how hollow all RPG games are, leaving the only worthwhile ones to be the ones telling a story you didn't help write, just simply witness happen in-between moments of gameplay.

@WandererUber @DrRyanSkelton @Jens_Rasmussen And why I will always long to play TTRPGs instead of RPGs. Video Games are RPG in the sense you never play yourself, you are playing either a semi-painted avatar or a completely different character from yourself.
When I play the Witch in Path of Exile, I am most definitely not roleplaying as my self since I have a penis and she has monthly stomach aches.

@WandererUber @Jens_Rasmussen @DrRyanSkelton No, he is saying that video games are called RPGs because they have stat sheets. I am saying they are RPGs because they have to emulate a real world for the player to buy into.

Tomorrow Square Enix could release a Final Fantasy game without any stats or item equipment, even levels, just talking and real-time/turn based combat without health bars, floating numbers and actual skills.
It'd still be an RPG because you're roleplaying the dudes in the mysterious sci-fi-magic setting without any such things in it.

Plants VS Zombies is an RPG

Bejewelled 3 is not an RPG

I think Jens is a bit too strict with his too, even though "RPG Elements" colloquially only mean stats and level progression, nothing else. I feel like it's too narrow for the genre itself.
