XEP-XXXX: Affection over XMPP
1. Introduction
All of us know that having internet friends is great, we all love those cuties inside of our computers. Of course we use XMPP to communicate with them, but sometimes this feels lacking.
The problem is that XMPP does not support sending affection! All we can do is use workarounds such as the /me command, defined in XEP-0245, or send messages like "hugs".
This is very inadequate, and, frankly, homophobic! This document seeks to rectify this glaring oversight. It is not too late to fix this!
2. Requirements
We must be able to perform affectionate actions towards our internet friends, such as:
- hugs
- snuggles
- cuddles
- kisses
In addition to this, this document must be extensible, as humans will always surprise us with novel ways of expressing affection.
3. Use Cases
This document defines an element, with inside it the type of affection that is performed. This document defines , , and .
For example, if we'd like to send a hug to our good friend Luna:
/me shrugs in disgust at your client not handling affection
If our friend wishes to reciprocate with a novel way of expressing affection called a "nhac":
/me shrugs in disgust at your client not handling affection
4. Future Work
This document only specifies affectionate actions, not sexual actions such as say gex or sesbian lex. It might be desirable to standardize these in another XEP.
Doing so, however, would not be very ace of you.
5. Security Considerations
We may wish to have an XEP for expressing consent to such actions, so we may do this without resorting to plain-text messaging.
Imagine sending a plaintext message for something that can be done with an XML element. /me shrugs in disgust.
6. IANA Considerations
We may need to standardize a registry of affectionate actions with IANA.
67. XMPP Registrar Considerations
This document requires no interaction with the XMPP Registrar.
