@icedquinn @phnt @twinspin6 oh u guys need a license to actually *own* the tv? i thought they were just complaining about everybody not buying cable for some reason
@kirby @icedquinn @twinspin6 They instead complain about not enough people buying the loicense they only need to have if they watch the broadcasts. AFAIK you don't need a loicense if you don't watch any broadcasts, they only fear monger everybody into thinking they need to.
@phnt @icedquinn @kirby @twinspin6 It's legally complicated. Technically you need a loicense if you can receive broadcasts of any kind, which could under a very liberal interpretation mean owning a computer. They use this legal ambiguity to scare people into buying them.

@icedquinn @druid @kirby @twinspin6 Yeah, that's what got pushed here as well. A receiver that requires a loicense is every smart phone and computer with internet connection since the national television and radio offer all of that on the internet.
