thinking about it, microblogging on fedi is not that much unlike USENET of ‘ye olden days.

of course, the feature set evolved quite drastically, and we don’t really post to software-enforced groups (rather, groups are more generic and enforced socially). but if you squint hard enough, it’s similar! i think that’s neat

@domi
I do have a tendency to reply even when I have nothing smart to say though.

Also, I'm definitely not cool.

Anyway, what I'd like to be able to do is eg. post 10 posts in a row about space rockets, such that the 2-3 people interested in those see them, but the rest of my fedi-friends don't get annoyed at the mention of SpaceX.

IRL at least it's possible to adjust your filter based on who's around. Can't do that on fedi.

@wolf480pl @domi This is why I yearn a bit for a (old) twitter-style algo timeline.
I don't want to see every reply to the same thread on my timeline. Just show me the OP, up top if a lot of my moots interacted.
I don't want to scroll for 7 pages to see an important and well-starred post because it was chronologically earlier than a bunch of random shitposts and boosts.
I want to see popular and relevant to me posts from people I don't follow.

static chronological timeline can't do any of that.
